Interlude: The Road to 500 Subscribers (And A Logo!)

Hello, friends!

Work, as is its habit, saw fit to hijack the spotlight these last few weeks, so unfortunately, there will be no regular issue this Friday.

HOWEVER, I do have an awesome announcement to make, and I’ll also take advantage of this little respite to share some of my plans for this year.

I Have A Logo!

First of all, as you may have noticed if you were paying attention, Practice Space now has a logo. It’s everything I’d imagined it would be when I was sketching out this blog, and honestly, it just feels awesome to have my own logo.

I wish to thank my friend, the supercalifragilisticexpialidocious Andrei Vîrvorea, for making this masterpiece happen. Thanks again, my man, you’ve done an amazing job!

Vîrvo, as he specifically asked us to call him back in the day, is a graduate of the Ion Mincu University of Architecture and Urbanism, as well as a freelance artist. You can find more of his work on Instagram, at @artech_ai, and I encourage you to give it a look. And if you need some professional visual work done, don’t hesitate to reach out. He’s the nicest guy, and he’ll get the job done.

On the Road to 500 Subscribers

Now, on to nittier-grittier stuff. At the end of last year, I made a list of goals I want to accomplish in 2023. At the top of that list, in bold, bright-blue pen and underlined aggressively, sits this: Get 500 Subscribers.

This is the biggest writing goal I’ve set for myself this year. When I started the blog, it all felt daunting. I had never published on a schedule before, and I didn’t even know what I wanted to say from one week to the next. In writer’s terms, I’m a pantser, not a plotter, which means I never outline my stories or plan anything out in advance. I just write one word, and then the next, and the next. And as it turns out, the ticking clock is a mighty propeller for creativity. It’s been a little over two months since I started Practice Space, and I have a folder brimming with potential titles. It feels good.

An Appeal

Finally, I have something to ask you. If you like the blog at all, and feel like some of your friends or family might like it too, give me a shoutout. Share a link to a post that resonated with you, or even just a little quote. It helps a lot, believe me.

To make it easier for you, here are three posts I love, in no particular order:

    No. 5 - On Vastness
Hello and howdy! Thanks for coming back for yet another issue. This one is a little spiritual (what’s life without a little risk?), but I hope it will resonate with you. I won’t say more, lest I spoil the thing. The other day, as my wife and I were getting ready for bed, we came to have a conversation about meaning. We were tired out of our skins, and th…

    No. 4 - Funeral Blues
I write this having come back from a funeral parlour. Inside that dingy place out in the middle of nowhere, suffused with strangers clothed in shadow, I saw my primary school teacher for the last time. As I gazed upon her coffin, one thought shook me to the core…

    No. 2 - Blaze
Hello, friends! Welcome to the first real issue of Practice Space. As promised, this one will be about the first piece of fiction I ever wrote. Without further ado, here it is, my origin story. I wrote my first short story in October 2019, at 22 years of age. Like most fledgling writers, I stumbled through until I reached some sort of finish line. I wrot…

These are just my first steps on the road to 500 subscribers. But I have time, and I have heart. I just need a little luck.

Cheers,

Andrei

Your logo is very cute! I've just shared your previous post on my Facebook 😉

I'm sure you'll reach 500 and more subscribers this year! Keep on with the blog, you're doing a very good job! 🙂
